Maternal & Child Health Systems Committee

  1. Purpose

    The purpose of the Maternal and Child Health System Committee (MCHSC) is to establish a partnership among the private sector, the public sector, state government, local government, community alliances, and maternal and child health care providers, for the provision of coordinated community-based prenatal and infant health care. The MCHSC will provide guidance for the inclusion and incorporation of local communities in all aspects of Healthy Start program planning, implementation and assessment.
  2. Mission Statement

    Ensure services are available to promote and protect the health and well being of pregnant women and children birth to age three.
  3. Goals

    The MCHSC will:
    • Build partnerships with local agencies, programs, medical facilities, and other appropriate entities involved in the care of pregnant women and children in Broward County.
    • Educate the community and Broward legislators on issues pertaining to maternal and child health.
    • Identify needs and gaps in services and ensure the following services are made available to all pregnant women and children regardless of their medical insurance coverage or lack thereof:
      • Prenatal care
      • Early intervention services for children
      • Services for children with disabilities
    • Identify funding resources and pursue funding opportunities related to maternal and child health.
    • Ensure participation in the MCHSC by Medicaid-eligible consumers by July 1, 2007.
    • Facilitate and participate in events specific to educating the community about maternal and child health issues and available services.
    • Participate in planning and implementation of special projects such as the Healthy Start Diaper Drive, the Healthy Start Annual Meeting, and Healthy Start Day.
