Risk Screening
Screening of pregnant women and infants by medical providers and birthing institutions is the primary mechanism for entry into the Healthy Start system of services.

From January 2007 through December 2007, there were approximately 22,873 births in Broward County. Out of those, 17,890 pregnant women and 19,715 infants were screened for Healthy Start services. From information provided on the screening forms, those who were identified as being at risk for poor outcomes were referred for services. The following graph displays Broward Healthy Start Coalition’s risk screening and consent to service rates compared to those of the state.
